HOW to GET RID of MILLIPEDE
Millipedes are oval and 1-1/2" long. They have segmented with many legs and they coil up when they are resting or dead. All millipedes have two pairs of legs attached to each body segment. They are brown or black but some can be orange or red. Millipedes usually decease within a few days of coming into your home unless there is a source of high moisture and food supply. They only come into the house on extremely wet season or extreme drought. Millipedes are nocturnal pests.
MILLIPEDE INSPECTION
Millipedes will be only that has moisture, wood debris, rock, grass clippings, leaf litter, decaying organic matter, under trash, grass clippings, mulch, rotting firewood.
MILLIPEDE CONTROL METHOD
Prevention:
- Remove debris and objects that can hold moisture
- Store firewood off the ground.
- You should water lawns in the morning to encourage drying by the afternoon.
- Flower beds should not be overly mulched.
- Entry into the buildings should be fixed such as in cracks and crevices, siding, windows, doors, pipes, wires, and anywhere else.
- Vacuum often.
Outdoor treatment is essential to help control millipedes. You can use granule (DEMAND G GRANULES, BIFEN GRANULES) using a hand spreader (HANDY GREEN II SPREADER, HANDLE SPREADER), liquid sprays (MASTERLINE BIFENTHRIN 7.9, DEMAND CS, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP) using a hand sprayer (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER).
Using the amount instructed on the label, apply the liquid spray with a mist nozzle or granule uniformly on your whole entire lawn, large turfs, or other landscaped areas. This treatment is called a broadcast treatment. You can also spread a band around your home which will make a zone around your house. This is called a barrier treatment because they make a barrier around your home. Indoor treatment is different. Using liquid spray (MASTERLINE BIFENTHRIN 7.9, DEMAND CS, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP) with a pinpoint nozzle (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER) with the amount instructed on the label, spray around window/door frames, cracks and crevices, closets, bathrooms, kitchen, sink, basement, attics, and anywhere else that have moisture.
Since millipedes come into your home through cracks and crevices, they might live inside the voids in the walls. Void treatment is a treatment into a place that you cannot reach. You will need to make an access into your wall (i.e. drilling a hole into your wall or removing an electric outlet cover) and use dust (DELTA DUST, PYGANIC DUST) using a duster (BELLOW BULB DUSTER, CENTROBULB DUSTER ). Following the instructed amount of dust to use inside the duster, you will need to apply the dust not directly into the hole but around the inside of the hole. DO NOT OVER USE DUST and do not apply where children and pets are present and can touch. In places where there is excessive moisture use a dehumidifier to get rid of the moisture.
